Kolkata, Sept. 10 -- The state government will observe PM Modi's birthday on September 17 with state-wide outreach and public-service programmes, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced.
The celebrations will centre on "Annapurna Divas", targeting around one crore beneficiaries and families through welfare initiatives.
Cultural programmes, including lamp-lighting at Victoria Memorial and Kalighat, will be organised. The programme will include cleanliness drives, bicycle rallies and padayatras across districts. Schools and youth will participate in "India@2047"-themed drawing, quiz, debate and impromptu speech competitions, with a target of reaching around
80,000 students.
Adhikari held a meeting with ministers, MLAs and officials to finalise the arrangements. Designated nodal officers and the Information and Cultural Affairs department will coordinate the programmes.
No government events will be held in Nandigram and Rejinagar due to the model code of conduct for by-elections. Personal or political programmes may, however, take place there.
