Kolkata, July 6 -- The School Education Department has begun the process of setting up AI-supported science laboratories and smart classrooms in government schools across 23 educational districts, besides constructing additional girls' toilets and boundary walls.
The proposed infrastructure projects will be taken up in all educational districts except Kolkata under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF)-XXXII programme.
According to the Paschim Banga Samagra Shiksha Mission (PBSSM), the plan includes science laboratories equipped with AI-supported innovative laboratory equipment and smart classrooms in higher secondary schools. Additional girls' toilets and boundary walls have also been proposed for secondary schools located on the same premises.
As part of the process, the School Education Department has invited bids for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the proposed works.
The tender document states that three DPRs will be prepared for each educational district covered under the programme. The selected consultant will conduct field surveys, soil investigations and cost assessments, and prepare district-wise project reports required for approvals and funding.
The DPRs must be submitted within 15 days of the issuance of the work order.
Officials said the reports would form the basis for obtaining technical approvals and funding before the projects are taken up for implementation.
