India, June 24 -- Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood has ordered a citywide crackdown on electricity theft, citing significant losses in several high-loss pockets across the capital. The drive has already yielded results in Kamruddin Nagar in West Delhi's Mundka division, where power losses had reached 56.4 per cent, causing an estimated annual financial loss of Rs 24.4 crore. According to the government, illegal commercial and industrial units were drawing electricity through unauthorised connections from overhead power lines. Following directions from the minister, discoms and enforcement agencies carried out a major raid that reportedly prevented the theft of more than 10 million units of electricity. Officials said power theft at the targeted locations has since declined by around 34,000 units per day. Similar action will be undertaken in other high-loss areas across Delhi.
