New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- The Delhi government has warned senior officers against taking leave without prior permission, directing them to seek approval from the Chief Minister and ministers concerned before proceeding on any kind of leave.

An order issued on Wednesday by Services Secretary Nandini Paliwal said instructions on leave were not being followed and the matter had been viewed seriously by the Chief Minister. Earlier directions had required additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and heads of departments to inform the Chief Minister and ministers concerned before proceeding on leave, including casual leave.

The Services Department has now reiterated the directions and ordered that copies of leave applications from officers of the rank of head of department and above be sent to the Secretary to the Chief Minister. It warned that non-compliance would be viewed adversely and could invite action.

Officials said unauthorised leave by senior officers was a "chronic" issue despite repeated directions. Last year, some departments were also instructed to seek leave through WhatsApp. mpost
