Kolkata, July 9 -- The Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to prepare a white paper on alleged irregularities during the previous state government's tenure met at Nabanna on Thursday.
The five-member panel, headed by Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, decided to prepare a comprehensive report examining whether funds allocated under various schemes, particularly Centrally-sponsored projects, were diverted, misused, wasted or siphoned off.As part of the exercise, all government departments will scrutinise available records and documents before submitting detailed reports.
The GoM also held discussions with various departments on the preparation of the proposed white paper and asked them to furnish relevant data and official records.
The meeting was attended by ministers Swapan Dasgupta, Dilip Ghosh, Tapas Roy, Arup Das and Dipak Barman.
The next meeting of the Group of Ministers has been scheduled soon.
The state Cabinet on July 2 approved the formation of the five-member committee following Dasgupta's announcement in the Assembly on June 25. The Finance Minister had said white papers on corruption in every department during the previous regime would be published.
According to Dasgupta, the Finance Department's white paper will explain how the state accumulated huge debt, why several projects were abandoned midway, and why there were massive irregularities in recruitment, besides examining other alleged instances of financial mismanagement.
