Kolkata, Sept. 17 -- KMC on Thursday resumed its intensified food safety drive after a week, starting zone-wise inspections in south Kolkata's busy Golpark food hub.
At a prominent sweet shop, civic officials found several hygiene lapses in the preparation area and recovered ingredients unfit for consumption. A feather was also found in a packet of namkeen. The items were discarded, and the shop was directed to improve cleanliness in its food preparation area.
Inspectors also found an unhygienic factory, an improper trade licence and a fire extinguisher dating back to 2001. Sausages, jaggery and processed kebabs with visible fungal growth were among the food items destroyed. The team later inspected a popular momo outlet, where undated and visibly stale prawns, meat and processed momos were recovered and discarded.
Meanwhile, several eateries whose food licences were suspended during the recent city-wide crackdown have submitted compliance reports to the KMC, seeking revocation of the suspension orders. Officials said the establishments had taken corrective measures after deficiencies were identified during inspections. The civic body is examining the reports before deciding whether the suspended licences can be restored.
