India, Aug. 12 -- Government procurement through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in Delhi has recorded a 156 per cent year-on-year increase in the first four months of 2026-27, with purchases touching Rs 1,595 crore till July, prompting the national platform to recognise the Capital for its growing adoption of digital procurement. According to the Delhi government, the Capital has been honoured under the 'Sustained Services Procurement Adoption' category for increasing the use of GeM in government purchases and expanding services procurement through the platform. Official data showed procurement through GeM increased from Rs.624 crore during the corresponding period last year to Rs.1,595 crore in FY 2026-27 (up to July). Total procurement through the portal stood at Rs.4,311 crore in FY 2025-26, a 41 per cent increase over the previous financial year. Of this, procurement from micro and small enterprises (MSEs) accounted for Rs.2,177 crore. The government said procurement from MSEs has more than doubled over the past four years, rising from around Rs.965 crore in FY 2021-22 to Rs 2,177 crore in FY 2025-26. Nearly 95 per cent of the orders received by Delhi-based sellers during the last financial year came from Central government departments and buyers in other states. The platform has also expanded opportunities for underrepresented businesses. During FY 2025-26, procurement worth Rs.315 crore was made from women entrepreneurs, Rs.41 crore from SC/ST entrepreneurs and Rs.405 crore from startups. The government said it organised over 65 training programmes involving more than 3,600 participants to increase awareness and improve adoption of the platform across departments.
