Malda, Sept. 24 -- Primary school teachers in Gazole took to the streets on Wednesday protesting the alleged assault on teachers following a sexual assault on a child. They demanded immediate action against those responsible for the attack on teachers.
The protest was organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangha (ABRSM), West Bengal (School Education).
On September 14, a four-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man aged above 40 in the Gazole Police Station area. The accused allegedly took the child to his house, threatened her and sexually assaulted her. The child subsequently fell seriously ill and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. A complaint has been lodged with the Gazole police.
According to local residents, the child allegedly informed the head teacher about the incident, but no action was taken by the head teacher. Villagers also alleged that neither the police nor the child's guardians were informed.
Following this, angry residents confronted the head teacher at the school. The situation turned violent and the head teacher and other teachers were allegedly assaulted in the school premises. They were later rescued by the police. The main accused remains absconding. Police have launched a search operation and intensified patrolling in the area. ABRSM members marched through Gazole and later held a protest meeting. They submitted a memorandum demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the attack on teachers, fast-track legal action and security
for teachers.
BJP North Malda general secretary Bina Kirtaniya said: "The incident happened around 15 days ago and another incident has occurred since then. Yet the police were not informed, nor were the guardians.
The child was also allegedly threatened with death if she disclosed the incident. No one has been arrested so far. The accused must be
arrested immediately."
