New Delhi, Sept. 4 -- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday called upon Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) leaders to step up efforts to make the national capital clean, healthy and developed, stressing that the civic body has a crucial role in building a "developed Delhi".
Gupta made the remarks while meeting newly appointed chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of various MCD special and ad hoc committees at the Chief Minister's Janseva Sadan. The meeting was led by Mayor Pravesh Wahi, while Deputy Mayor Monika Pant and Leader of the House Jaibhagwan Yadav were also present.
The Chief Minister said the MCD must focus on basic civic development, sanitation, waste disposal, environmental improvement, primary education and healthcare. She urged the civic leaders to work collectively in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for Delhi.
"Making Delhi garbage-free should be among the MCD's key priorities," Gupta said, underlining the need for an effective waste disposal system and cleaner public spaces.
She said cleanliness was not merely a sanitation issue but was linked to a healthier environment, better quality of life and the image of a developed city.
Gupta also called for sustained efforts to improve primary education in MCD schools and strengthen local healthcare facilities. She said quality education and accessible healthcare were essential for improving public welfare and strengthening citizens' trust in civic services.
On the MCD's finances, the Chief Minister assured its office-bearers that the civic body would no longer have to face financial difficulties. She said available resources should be utilised efficiently, with development and public service works receiving priority.
"The benefits of better coordination between the Centre and the Delhi Government through the double-engine government should reach the capital's development," Gupta said.
She asked civic leaders to work with "full seriousness and dedication" towards making Delhi a truly developed capital. Representatives of committees dealing with education, environment, health, works, horticulture, women and child welfare, property tax and licensing, among others, attended the meeting.
