Kolkata, Oct. 27 -- Prahlad Das (23), the prime accused in the rape and murder of a 17-year-old schoolgirl, was shot dead in a police encounter in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident reportedly took place near the India-Bangladesh border in the Gaighata area of North 24-Parganas during a crime scene reconstruction exercise.
The Class XI student had gone missing on Saturday night after attending a musical programme near a local market. Her body was recovered by local residents from the backyard of a distant relative's house in the neighbourhood on Sunday morning. The police were subsequently informed, and the prime accused was arrested after a case was registered.
