Kolkata, Aug. 5 -- Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will soon be in the state to announce a package of Rs 20,000 crores for infrastructure development, said West Bengal Public Works Department ( PWD) and Public Health Engineering ( PHE) Minister Ajay Kumar Poddar on Wednesday.
Poddar returned to the city on Tuesday evening after a two day visit in New Delhi where he discussed road infrastructure projects with Gadkari. He was accompanied by senior officials of the PWD department. The discussions focused on a range of issues related to the development of national highways, state highways, bridges and road infrastructure across West Bengal. The state delegation also presented several key proposals to the Union Minister aimed at accelerating infrastructure development and improving connectivity in the state.
Poddar said the Union Minister's warm reception, cordiality and positive outlook towards West Bengal's development had greatly encouraged him. He added that, at his request, Gadkari had agreed to visit West Bengal for laying foundation stones for several major road and infrastructure projects in the state during which he will announce projects and allocation of funds for further infrastructure development in Bengal.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state would accelerate the development of roads, bridges and other infrastructure in West Bengal. He said the proposed initiatives would boost economic growth, promote industrial development.
