New Delhi, Oct. 25 -- Taiwan's Ministry of Culture and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India have presented the 2026 Taiwan Film Festival, which will run till October 31, 2026. This year, the festival marks a new milestone by expanding beyond New Delhi, its main venue in previous years, to Mumbai, one of India's major hubs for film and audio-visual culture. Six Taiwanese films are being screened in New Delhi, while Mumbai will showcase three films on October 31. Through this cross-city film festival and local promotional activities, the festival aims to invite Indian audiences to discover Taiwan from different perspectives, including baseball, family, youth, gender, technology and social memory.
Dr Mumin Chen, Chief Representative, Taipei Economic and Cultural Centre in India, said, "Taiwan Film Festival is one of the most important and largest cultural events organised by TECC each year. This year we selected six best films from Taiwan covering various subjects from sports to society and to gender issues. We hope Indian audiences will feel the spirit and energy of Taiwanese people through these films."
The selected films include several Golden Horse Award-winning and nominated works. Among them, 'Dear Tenant' and 'Alifu' are Golden Horse Award-winning films, while 'Deep Quiet Room' and 'Before the Bright Day' are Golden Horse Award-nominated works.
The lineup also includes 'HERO! HITO!', a documentary chronicling Taiwan's national baseball team's journey to winning a world championship and 'A Chip Odyssey', a documentary focusing on the development of Taiwan's semiconductor industry. Together, these films showcase the richness of Taiwanese cinema in artistic creation, social engagement and cultural storytelling.
According to Isabel Lin, Head of the Cultural Division, TECC India, the festival line-up covers a wide range of themes, including documentary, drama, coming-of-age stories, family relationships, gender diversity, technology and sports culture. The key visual design also echoes the spirit of the line-up by combining the elements of baseball and microchips, symbolising Taiwan's internationally recognised achievements in sports and economic development in recent years.
