Kolkata, Nov. 1 -- The Kolkata Police have lodged an FIR against MAITC MLA Kunal Ghosh at Girish Park Police Station in connection with protests over the Chorbagan stampede that claimed 19 lives.
Ghosh had questioned the role of the police administration and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident, including the alleged involvement of influential persons behind the arrangements at the pandal. Ghosh claimed that the FIR against him was a fallout of the protest and said he had received a legal notice from the police.
The Beleghata MLA criticised the police action, alleging that instead of taking action against those responsible for the tragedy, the administration was targeting those demanding accountability.
Questioning the absence of legal action against influential persons allegedly connected to the incident, Ghosh said the move appeared to be an attempt to intimidate protesters and silence voices.
