Kolkata, Sept. 10 -- Trinamool Congress' Bhadura Haridas area president Buddhadeb Mondal, who was allegedly abducted from a government office in Falta on September 8, was later found dead in Namkhana. His mutilated body was recovered from the Patibunia area and identified by his wife Priyanka Mondal at the Kakdwip hospital morgue on Wednesday.
Mondal, 42, was reportedly at the Irrigation Department's Falta-Balarampur office when a group of people allegedly took him outside the premises on the pretext of speaking to him. According to his family, the men then fled with him on a motorcycle despite attempts by office employees to intervene.
The family subsequently lodged a missing-person complaint at Falta police station. Police arrested four people in connection with the alleged abduction - Amit Sardar, Bijoy Das, Ashok Karmakar and Sanjit Shashmal. Three of them are reportedly BJP booth presidents and the other one is a worker of the same party.
Party sources said all four were subsequently expelled from the BJP. The arrests and their alleged political links have triggered concern in the area.
Meanwhile, Mondal's wife had earlier alleged that the family had faced threatening circumstances in recent days.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and murder.
