Kolkata, Sept. 9 -- Bidhannagar City Police busted a fake call centre that was operating from an office space in Salt Lake Sector V on Wednesday afternoon.
Police have arrested 19 employees of the said call centre, while a good number of digital devices were also seized. Cops also issued notices to eight women employees.
According to police, acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, Detective Department, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Electronics Complex Police Station conducted a raid at an office space in Salt Lake Sector V. During the raid, cops found that the employees were calling foreign nationals with the intent to dupe them. Police informed that the accused persons used to call people, impersonating executives of multinational companies like Amazon and others.
The innocent citizens were offered lucrative schemes and offers to lure them into a trap. Once convinced, the fraudsters used to obtain their banking credentials and siphon off money.
From the said spot, police seized 12 laptops, 23 mobile phones with SIM cards, Rs 29,210, foreign customer data and other incriminating materials. A case has been registered at Electronics Complex Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Telegraph Act.
