Kolkata, May 24 -- A film producer filed a cheating complaint against actor and former Trinamool Congress MLA Soham Chakraborty at Balurghat Police Station, alleging that the actor accepted Rs 15 lakh as advance payment for a film that was never completed.

Complainant Tarun Das of Mangalpur in South Dinajpur district claimed that he had approached Soham in 2018 for the lead role in a commercial Bengali film. According to Das, the actor agreed to act in the project and received the advance remuneration. However, the film's shooting was allegedly postponed several times on different grounds and eventually never began.

Das further alleged that after suffering financial losses in 2020, he sought a refund of the amount. He claimed that instead of repayment, he was threatened with legal consequences and chose to remain silent due to Soham's political influence at the time.

The producer recently renewed his demand for repayment and alleged that during a meeting on May 19, Soham's manager informed him that the money would not be returned.

Meanwhile, Soham denied the allegations and accused Das of threatening him. The actor said he was unable to refund the money at present but remained willing to complete the film if the producer wished to proceed.
