Kolkata, July 9 -- A former TMC councillor on Thursday alleged that a BJP worker demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened to have him paraded with a rope tied around his waist and pelted with rotten eggs if he failed to pay, before breaking down at the BJP's Hooghly district office while trying to place his complaint before BJP state president Samik Bhattacharya.
Keshab Das, a former councillor of Bansberia Municipality, alleged that BJP worker Debjit Mukhopadhyay, alias Rana,
made the demand and issued the threats.
Das went to the BJP office after learning of Bhattacharya's district visit. As the BJP leader emerged after a district core committee meeting, Das fell at his feet and burst into tears. Party leaders and security personnel quickly pulled him away.
Saptagram BJP MLA Swaraj Ghosh said the allegations would be examined, and strict action would be taken if any BJP worker was found guilty. He added that if the allegations proved false and motivated, the party would act accordingly.
