New Delhi, May 16 -- In a push towards sustainable urban transport and clean mobility, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Saturday announced a 50% concession in parking charges for electric vehicles across all its notified parking sites from May 18.
The initiative was announced by NDMC Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal as part of a broader green mobility campaign inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of sustainable and eco-friendly transportation.
According to NDMC officials, the concession will apply to all electric vehicles parked at NDMC-operated parking facilities and will remain in force until further orders. Verification of EV status will be carried out through vehicle registration documents.
The civic body also launched a series of eco-friendly transport services aimed at reducing fuel consumption and encouraging public transport usage among employees and residents.
As part of the initiative, EV auto services were introduced between Palika Kendra and nearby Metro stations, including Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Janpath, along with routes connecting Palika Kendra to SBS Gole Market and various NDMC field offices.
Chahal also flagged off the NDMC Bus Shuttle Service from the Aliganj housing complex and travelled with senior officials to Palika Kendra to mark the launch. In the first phase, the shuttle service will cater to major NDMC residential colonies, including Sarojini Nagar, Jor Bagh, Chanakyapuri and Mandir Marg.
