Raiganj, Sept. 16 -- Tension prevailed at the Raiganj court premises on Wednesday afternoon after a group of lawyers allegedly caught two youths hurling eggs at an arrested TMC leader during his production before the court. The two youths were subsequently handed over to police. They were then detained for questioning.
According to reports, police arrested Babai Nandi, TMC president of Kamlabari-II Gram Panchayat, in connection with an old Arms Act case.
He was being brought to the court on Wednesday afternoon for his production before the Magistrate when some youths allegedly began throwing eggs at him. Sayan Chowdhury, president of the Raiganj Bar Association, said: "We had prior information that some youths might resort to egg throwing in the court premises. We immediately informed the District Judge, following which adequate police personnel were deployed. When Babai Nandi was being brought to court, some youths started hurling eggs. Such acts are unconstitutional. We chased the law breakers, caught them and handed them over to police."
Sandip Chakraborty, Inspector-in-Charge of Raiganj Police Station said that two youths had been detained in connection with the alleged egg-hurling incident.
