Raiganj, Sept. 15 -- Former TMC MLA of Karandighi, Gautam Paul, was allegedly attacked with eggs by a group of women at the premises of the Karandighi Block Development Officer's office in North Dinajpur district on Tuesday afternoon.
According to local sources, the women allegedly confronted and chased Paul when he arrived at the block office. He reportedly managed to escape from the spot by running through a nearby paddy field. Police from Karandighi Police Station rushed to the area after receiving information and brought the situation under control. Gautam Paul has reportedly remained away from his residence at Karandighi since the change of government in the state.
Sampa Mahanta, secretary of the BJP's North Dinajpur district unit Mahila Morcha, alleged that Paul had misused his position during his tenure as MLA and threatened residents over voting. She also accused him of involvement in misappropriation of government funds.
