Kolkata, Oct. 1 -- The Election Commission (EC) has stepped up efforts to enrol left-out and young, first-time eligible voters in West Bengal, directing district election officers to conduct special drives as part of the ongoing continuous updation of
electoral rolls.
Chief Electoral Officer, West Bengal, along with additional CEOs, joint and deputy chief electoral officers, on Thursday held a video conference with all district election officers (DEOs) to review preparations for the special enrolment exercise.
The DEOs and Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) have been asked to organise dedicated drives and set up help desks at the district and ERO levels to facilitate enrolment and ensure that no eligible voter is left out.
The exercise will particularly focus on young and first-time electors as well as those who may have been left out of the electoral roll. Electoral Literacy Clubs will also be involved to spread awareness and encourage eligible citizens to apply, said additional CEO Arindam Neogi.
