Kolkata, April 19 -- In a fresh administrative reshuffle just days before the first phase of Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India has ordered the transfer of two Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) in East Midnapore district.

In a letter to Chief Secretary Dushyant Nariala, the Commission directed immediate implementation of the order, naming the SDPOs of Haldia and Contai subdivisions. Atanu Ghoshal, currently with the state police's Special Task Force, has been posted as SDPO, Contai, replacing Dibakar Das. Alok Kumar, a 2023-batch IPS officer, has been appointed SDPO, Haldia, replacing Arindam Adhikari.

East Midnapore holds political significance as the home district of Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

The Commission has directed the newly appointed officers to assume charge by 5 pm on Sunday. Polling in the district is scheduled for April 23 in the first phase.
