Kolkata, Sept. 25 -- Eastern Railway has commissioned a Multi Section Digital Axle Counter (MSDAC) system at Barrackpore station to improve signalling reliability during waterlogging and heavy rainfall, while a 24x7 Emergency Medical Room has been opened at Burdwan railway station to provide medical assistance to passengers.
The MSDAC system was commissioned on September 21 at Barrackpore and has been installed in parallel with the existing DC track circuits at Platforms 4, 2, 1A and 1, as well as on the Down Suburban Line.
According to Eastern Railway, the arrangement provides an additional and independent means of train detection.
This is expected to reduce disruptions caused by waterlogging, which can affect conventional DC track circuits in low-lying sections, and minimise train detention during adverse weather.
Barrackpore is an important suburban station, and improved signalling reliability is
expected to help maintain the continuity of suburban services during the monsoon.
Meanwhile, a 24x7 Emergency Medical Room was opened at Burdwan station on September 23. Located near the main entrance, the facility will provide basic and advanced medical care to passengers who fall ill or require emergency assistance at the station or while travelling on passing trains.
It has an ambulance, pharmacy and laboratory facilities.
