Kolkata, Sept. 29 -- A demonstration was held outside the West Bengal Medical Council office in Salt Lake on Tuesday over alleged irregularities in the registration of doctors. The protest followed a recent council notification cancelling the registrations of five alleged fake doctors against whom a complaint had been lodged with Bidhannagar South P.S.
According to the notification, Zulfiqar Mondal and Saidul Haque were found to have the same registration number. Sheikh Yunus Hasan, Uttam Maity and Hafizur Haldar were also named in connection with similar irregularities.
The protesters, mainly doctors associated with the BJP, alleged that duplicate registration numbers raised questions over the functioning of the council, which they said was run by doctors linked to the previous TMC regime. They sought the resignation of council president Dr Sudipta Roy and vice-president Dr Sushanta Roy. They also submitted a memorandum to Health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee at Swasthya Bhavan.
