India, May 18 -- In a major push towards sustainable urban mobility and fuel conservation, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that it will operate additional train trips across its network to encourage more commuters to use metro services instead of private vehicles. The move comes amid growing emphasis on reducing fuel dependency, improving environmental sustainability and strengthening public transport infrastructure across Delhi-NCR. According to DMRC, 24 additional train trips using six extra trains will be introduced every Monday starting from May 18, 2026. The corporation said the decision was taken in anticipation of increased passenger demand due to ongoing campaigns promoting public transport and fuel conservation. "Recognizing the critical role of mass transit in ensuring energy security, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability, DMRC is undertaking a series of strategic initiatives to facilitate greater adoption of metro services," the corporation stated.
