New Delhi, Oct. 26 -- The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has launched a six-month citywide electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) drive to verify water connections, update consumer records and improve billing accuracy. The exercise will involve door-to-door verification of registered water consumers, with officials using GPS tagging and live photographs of water meters to improve the accuracy of its database and identify duplicate, outdated or incomplete records.
During the verification process, authorised field personnel will check details such as water connection information, property addresses, mobile numbers and meter status. Properties will be geo-tagged, while meter photographs and relevant information will be digitally recorded to strengthen monitoring and reduce discrepancies in billing.
The initiative is also expected to help address complaints related to incorrect, delayed or undelivered water bills. Updated consumer details could facilitate more efficient bill distribution and enable digital delivery of bills and related communication through email and WhatsApp, wherever applicable.
The DJB has urged residents to cooperate with authorised survey teams while exercising caution during the verification process. Consumers have been advised to check the surveyor's official identity card and authorisation before sharing personal or property-related information.
Residents may keep their water bills, identity proof and ownership or occupancy documents ready for verification. However, they have been cautioned against handing over original documents or sharing sensitive information, including one-time passwords (OTPs), Aadhaar-linked details and financial information, with unauthorised persons.
The water utility has clarified that the e-KYC exercise is completely free of cost and consumers are not required to pay surveyors or offer gifts. Any demand for money or other improper requests should be reported through the DJB's official complaint channels. The DJB has appealed to consumers to provide accurate and updated information to ensure the exercise is completed within the stipulated period.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening digital consumer records, improving transparency in water billing and making service delivery more efficient.
