Cooch Behar, July 15 -- The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) on Wednesday reviewed the progress of various Central and state government development projects at a meeting convened by the Cooch Behar district administration.

The meeting was attended by Cooch Behar MP Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia, Sitai MLA Sangeeta Roy Basunia, Jalpaiguri MP Jayanta Roy, Mekhliganj MLA Dadhiram Roy, Natabari MLA Girija Shankar Roy, District Magistrate Jitin Yadav, and senior administrative officials.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia, who had won on a TMC ticket, said the discussions focused on the implementation of development projects across the district. Declining to comment on political matters, he said his priority was the development of the constituency. He, however, claimed that he belongs to the NCPI camp.

He praised the state government's development initiatives and added that, as the new government had only recently assumed office, implementation of projects would take time. He also said efforts were underway to carry forward development works in his parliamentary constituency in line with available allocations, while expressing hope that the law and order situation would continue to improve.

Sitai MLA Sangeeta Roy Basunia, who had also won on a TMC ticket, said she would soon begin visiting her constituency regularly after the ongoing Assembly session concludes on July 26. "Once the Assembly session is over, I will return to Sitai and start the development work of the area," she said.

Jalpaiguri MP Jayanta Roy, who attended the DISHA meeting for the first time, stressed the need for regular review meetings. He claimed that although the committee had been constituted several years ago, meetings had not been held regularly in the past. As the committee's co-chairman, he said he had raised the issue with the concerned authorities.

"The primary objective of the DISHA Committee is to monitor and review the implementation of development projects in the district. Such meetings should be held every three months," Jayanta Roy said. He declined to comment on the political positions or affiliations of Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia and Sangeeta Roy Basunia, maintaining that the focus of the meeting remained on development issues.
