New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- With Delhi gearing up for the festive season, power discoms BRPL and BYPL have introduced same-day temporary electricity connections for Durga Puja, Ramlilas, Diwali melas, weddings and other events, offering organisers an alternative to diesel generator sets.
Under the 'Tatkal' service, eligible consumers can get temporary electricity connections within 24 hours, subject to completion of prescribed formalities and technical feasibility. The service has reduced the processing time from up to seven days earlier to within a day.
A BSES spokesperson said the initiative was aimed at making festive events safer while reducing dependence on diesel generators. "Festivals are a time of celebration and togetherness, and reliable electricity plays an important role in making these occasions safe and enjoyable. Through our 'Tatkal' service, we are leveraging technology and streamlined processes to facilitate temporary electricity connections within 24 hours," the spokesperson said.
"Besides making the process more convenient for consumers, these connections also provide a cleaner alternative to diesel generators and support Delhi's efforts to reduce pollution," the spokesperson added.
Consumers can apply for the temporary connections through the BSES website, BRPL Power App, BYPL Connect, WhatsApp, customer care centres and Digi Seva Kendras. Applications can also be made through the Delhi government's Single Window System at the office of the concerned District Magistrate. For BRPL consumers, applications and queries can be made through WhatsApp at 8800919123 or the call centre number 19123. BYPL consumers can use WhatsApp number 8745999808 or call 19122. BSES said payments for temporary connections can be made digitally, allowing organisers to complete the process without physical paperwork or visits.
The discoms have also placed their Operations and Maintenance teams on high alert in view of the expected increase in electricity demand during the festive period. Teams will monitor the distribution network and remain prepared to respond to localised power-related issues during major celebrations.
BSES urged organisers of Ramlilas, Durga Puja events, Diwali melas, weddings and other gatherings to opt for authorised temporary electricity connections instead of unauthorised wiring or diesel generators.
