Cooch Behar, Aug. 5 -- The CPI(M) has accused BJP supporters of vandalising and looting its party office in the Bhetaguri area of Dinhata in Cooch Behar district. The alleged incident took place late on Tuesday night at the Hare Krishna Kongar Bhavan.
According to the CPI(M), unidentified miscreants ransacked the office, damaging furniture and looting various items, including tables, chairs, a television set and important party documents. On receiving information, party leaders Tarapada Barman, Prabir Pal, Shuvralok Das, Utpal Acharya and Milan Shil visited the spot, on Wednesday.
The party has lodged a complaint with Dinhata Police Station, demanding the arrest of those responsible and an impartial investigation.
CPI(M) district committee member Shuvralok Das alleged: "Party offices of the CPI(M) and other Left parties are being vandalised one after another.
In the past few days, the BJP tried to attack a DYFI programme, while the district offices of the SUCI, Forward Bloc and CPI(M) were also vandalised. Despite complaints, no one has been arrested.
The Bhetaguri party office was similarly vandalised and looted on Tuesday night. These attacks are being carried out because the CPI(M) is raising its voice against the BJP's anti-people policies."
BJP Cooch Behar district president Abhijit Barman said: "These allegations are baseless. The CPI(M), which ruled the state for 34 years, is now blaming the BJP for
political reasons."
