Kolkata, Nov. 2 -- Dinesh Vitthalrao Ganvir took charge as GSI's 55th Director General.
He joined GSI on July 1, 1994, and has over 32 years' experience. Before his appointment, he was Additional Director General, Central Region, Nagpur, and National Mission Head-II.
During his tenure, GSI handed over 359 Geological Reports and 377 Geological Memorandums.
These included 202 critical mineral blocks, of which 40 were auctioned, and 56 Exploration Licence blocks, of which 11 were auctioned under Tranche I
and II.
Ganvir said GSI would step up critical mineral exploration, adopt advanced technologies and strengthen scientific research efforts to enhance mineral security and reduce import dependence.
