Kolkata, Sept. 23 -- Tourists visiting Digha were on Wednesday advised not to venture into the sea as rough conditions and inclement weather prevailed along the East Midnapore coast.
Police and local administration resorted to loudspeaker announcements, asking visitors to stay away from the water and avoid venturing deep into the sea. The precautionary measures came amid a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal and forecasts of heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds along the coast. The India Meteorological Department's forecast warned of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The administration also stepped up surveillance along the popular beach stretches to prevent tourists from entering the water despite the warning.
Fishermen have separately been advised not to venture into the sea along the West Bengal and Odisha coasts between September 23 and 25. With the sea turning increasingly turbulent, authorities urged tourists to follow safety instructions and avoid taking risks for photographs or bathing.
