Jalpaiguri, Oct. 1 -- Panic gripped Boragari-I BFP School in Dhupguri block on Thursday noon after a venomous cobra slithered into a classroom while classes were underway. Terrified students screamed and rushed out after spotting the snake, while teachers quickly evacuated them to another classroom.

The snake then coiled up in a corner, prompting the teachers to lock the classroom and keep a watch from outside to ensure the safety of the students.

Members of a Dhupguri-based environmental organisation and the Snake Lovers Organisation were informed about the incident. Environmentalist Bhajan Saha soon reached the school after receiving the information.

According to local residents, the snake kept moving between the third and fourth classrooms for more than two hours, bringing teaching activities at the school to a standstill.

Environmentalists eventually rescued the reptile, which was identified as a cobra measuring around four-and-a-half-feet long. Normal activities at the school gradually resumed after the rescue. The snake was later taken to a safe location and released into the forest.
