Jalpaiguri, June 9 -- A Class 10 student in Dhupguri was arrested after allegedly attacking four members of his family with a sharp weapon on Monday night, leaving his parents dead and two relatives critically injured.
The incident occurred in an area under Gadong-II Gram Panchayat of Dhupguri Block. According to police and family members, the teenager allegedly assaulted his parents inside their home.
Hearing their screams, the boy's aunt and cousin rushed to the spot but were also attacked while trying to intervene. Residents and relatives, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the house and found the victims seriously injured. All four were taken to Dhupguri Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors declared the mother dead on arrival, while the father, who had sustained critical injuries, was referred to Jalpaiguri Government Medical College and Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The injured aunt and cousin were initially admitted to Falakata Super Speciality Hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Siliguri after their condition worsened. A relative claimed that the teenager had been demanding Rs 5,000 from his mother and became violent after she allegedly refused. The relative also alleged that the boy was addicted to intoxicants.
Police, however, said the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be established. Investigators said the accused allegedly tried to escape on a motorcycle after the incident but lost control of the vehicle and fell. He was subsequently apprehended.
