New Delhi, Sept. 29 -- Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has rolled out a training framework for aspirant gyroplane pilots. This marks India's first step towards enabling introduction of the aircraft.
The regulator has issued a new Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) A 7, Series B, Part XXI, "Ground and Flying Training Syllabus for Issue of Pilot Licence for Gyroplanes".
The syllabus details out the ground and flying training requirements for issuance of DGCA pilot licence in the category of gyroplanes.
Gyroplanes, which have a rotating rotor-blade atop fuselage as a means of lift with a separate propeller as a means of thrust, have recreational and commercial applications such as joy-rides, air experience flights and aerial operations.
"The use of Gyroplanes for agricultural spraying, banner towing, aerial surveys and surveillance would open up possibilities for creating a new niche in the civil aviation sector," the DGCA said in the CAR.
It noted that while the issuance of a training syllabus is a first step in this direction, steps such as setting up training organisations and building indigenously assembled spares and components, too, would be needed to give a fillip to this sector.
"The formulation of this CAR 7, Series B Part XXI is a first step towards realising the vision of encouraging this unique aircraft for recreational and commercial operations in India. The proposed ecosystem would facilitate training, manufacturing and enhanced usage of these aircraft in India for various aerial activities," the
DGCA said.
