
NEW DELHI, April 19 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Deputy Director General from the Airworthiness Directorate at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) headquarters in New Delhi, along with a representative of a private firm, in an alleged bribery case.
According to officials, the case relates to a demand of Rs 2.5 lakh to expedite regulatory clearances pending with the civil aviation authority. The alleged bribe was sought through unofficial channels, prompting a complaint and subsequent action by the agency.Acting on the inputs, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire amount of Rs 2.5 lakh was recovered from the spot.
Following the arrests, the agency conducted searches at four locations in Delhi linked to the accused officials and private entities.
During the raids, investigators seized around Rs 37 lakh in cash, along with gold and silver coins and several electronic devices believed to contain crucial evidence.
Both accused are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials said the seized materials are being examined to establish the extent of the alleged corruption network and identify any additional links.
The CBI is also probing whether more officials or private entities were involved in the case. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
