India, Aug. 19 -- Jawaharlal Nehru University's admission process for the 2026-27 academic session will continue, but admissions made under its contentious "deprivation points" policy will remain subject to the outcome of a pending legal challenge before the Delhi High Court. According to ANI The dispute concerns JNU's practice of awarding additional points to certain candidates as part of its admission policy. A single-judge Bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh had questioned whether such points could effectively alter a candidate's score after a competitive entrance examination. "If this is permitted, the sanctity of an entrance exam will no longer remain," the court had observed, questioning whether a university could modify scores through its ordinances. The order was challenged by JNU before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia. The Bench allowed the university to proceed with admissions as prescribed in its e-prospectus, including the provisions relating to deprivation points that are under challenge. JNU said deprivation points, in place since 1974, promote student representation. The court said admissions remain subject to the case's final outcome.
