Kolkata, April 16 -- District Electoral Officer (DEO) North, Smita Pandey, along with Additional Commissioner D.P. Singh and senior officials of the Kolkata Police and central forces' jawans, visited several slum areas under the Entally Assembly Constituency to boost voter awareness and confidence.

The exercise was part of a broader confidence-building measure by the poll body. Sources said Pandey assured electors of adequate infrastructure and security arrangements for the conduct of free and peaceful polls. Entally is among the 142 Assembly constituencies going to polls on April 29 in the second phase.

"I have received a very positive response from electors. They told me they have been voting without fear or intimidation. Still, I informed them about helpline numbers - 100, 112 and 1950 - which they can call if they face any difficulty," Pandey said.

Pandey, who is also holding charge as Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, noticed garbage piled up along some narrow stretches during the visit and directed immediate clearance to ensure smooth movement of residents.
