
Kolkata, May 17 -- Massive tension flared in Park Circus area over a protest rally on Sunday afternoon regarding the recent use of bulldozer in Tiljala area for demolition of a house and anti encroachment drive.
While police tried to remove the road blockade put up by the protestors, a clash broke out following which cops resorted to lathi charge.
According to sources, on Sunday afternoon a large number of local people gathered at the Park Circus Seven Point crossing to protest against the use of bulldozer and eviction of the roadside stalls and shops. While protesting, the protestors allegedly tried to put up a road blockade. Despite,police requested not to do so, the protestors did not pay heed to the cops. Having no other way, police and the central force resorted to lathi charge to dispersed the mob.
Due to the police action, the mob moved towards the Don Bosco island. After a while, the mob blocked the Surawardy Avenue near the Lady Brabourne College. When police chased the protestors they went inside the narrow bylanes. From there the offenders started pelting bricks and stones at the police force. Additional Commissioner of Police (Addl. CP) VI, Ashesh Biswas said: "one illegal gathering had taken place and was trying to block the road. While police trying to stop them, they vandalised some of our vehicles. Out three police personnel suffered injuries. We will take legal action against them. No one will be spared.
