Kolkata, Sept. 18 -- Ahead of the upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections, a draft ward-wise seat reservation list is learnt to have been released for the civic body's 209 wards, earmarking 70 seats for women.
Of these, 66 wards have been reserved for women in the general category, while four have been reserved for women from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. A total of 12 wards have been reserved for SC candidates, including the four earmarked for SC women. No ward has been reserved for candidates from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.
The SC-reserved wards are 6, 28, 31, 52, 75, 126, 144, 154, 158, 197, 200 and 201. Of these, wards 6, 52, 144 and 197 have been specifically reserved for SC women.
The 66 wards reserved for women in the general category include 1, 4, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 30, 34, 37, 40, 43, 46, 49, 53, 56, 59, 62, 65, 68, 71, 74, 78, 81, 84, 87, 90, 93, 96, 99, 102, 105, 108, 111, 114, 117, 120, 123, 127, 130, 133, 136, 139, 142, 146, 149, 152, 156, 160, 163, 166, 169, 172, 175, 178, 181, 184, 187, 190, 193, 196, 202, 205 and 208.
The authorities have made it clear that the list is only a draft and objections and suggestions can be filed within two weeks before the final reservation list is issued.
The draft could influence candidate selection and poll planning, but the ward-wise reservation pattern may change after objections are considered.
