New Delhi, Sept. 16 -- Delhi has secured the top position in the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025 released by NITI Aayog, scoring 84 points, according to the Delhi government. The index assesses States and Union Territories on parameters including transport electrification, charging infrastructure, and research and innovation. The government said the recognition comes amid efforts to expand electric public transport and charging infrastructure in the capital. Delhi has set a target of deploying 14,000 electric buses by 2028-29, while work is also underway to increase the availability of EV charging facilities.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said "the ranking reflected the development of Delhi's electric mobility ecosystem and the government's focus on clean and sustainable transport."
The government attributed the progress to measures under the Delhi EV Policy 2026, including financial incentives for EV buyers and expansion of charging infrastructure. It said the focus is not only on increasing EV numbers but also on developing supporting infrastructure and electrifying public transport.
The IEMI is intended to track the progress, challenges and opportunities in electric mobility across States and Union Territories and facilitate sharing of policies and practices. NITI Aayog's official material describes the index as a tool for tracking state and UT performance across 16 key indicators related to the EV ecosystem.
