New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- With the deadline for disposing of notices under Delhi's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls set for November 30, nearly 1.87 lakh cases remain outside the disposed-of category, according to figures released by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, on Tuesday.

Of the 33,14,032 electors identified for notices, 31,26,576 cases, or 94.34 per cent, have been disposed of and parked for inclusion in the final electoral roll. The remaining 1,87,456 cases account for the gap between the total notices issued and those disposed of, raising questions about their status ahead of the deadline.

The notices comprise 13,79,789 cases of non-mapping, in which electors could not be linked to the electoral rolls of the last Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2002, and 19,34,243 cases involving logical discrepancies flagged by the system.

According to the CEO's office, notices have been generated in all logical-discrepancy cases. Following the Election Commission's instructions issued on September 29, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers collected supporting documents, resolving 18,96,675 cases, or 98.05 per cent of this category, for consideration in the final roll.

However, the latest figures do not provide a detailed breakdown of the remaining cases by approval, rejection or pending status. The distinction is significant, as disposal of a notice does not necessarily establish whether an elector's name has ultimately been retained.

The draft electoral roll, published on August 31, contains 97,53,577 electors, compared with 1,45,10,299 at the beginning of the revision exercise. The enumeration phase recorded 47,56,722 electors who did not return their forms, with their cases categorised as absent, shifted, dead or duplicate. The Election Commission has urged residents to verify their names and submit claims or objections wherever necessary. The deadline for filing claims and objections is October 30, while the final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on December 4.
