New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- The 'Save Democracy' march by INDIA bloc MPs from Parliament House to the Election Commission headquarters caused severe traffic snarls in central Delhi and adjoining Delhi-NCR routes on Monday as security arrangements were intensified.
With large deployments of Delhi Police, the Rapid Action Force and paramilitary personnel, several roads in Lutyens' Delhi witnessed restrictions, diversions and blockades from around 8am, leaving commuters stuck for hours.
An area within around 500 metres of the Election Commission office was sealed, while heavy security was deployed along Parliament Street. High metal barriers were placed on roads connecting Makar Dwar of Parliament House with Raisina Road, Ashoka Road and Windsor Place. Security personnel were also stationed near Akashvani Bhawan's back gate and adjoining lanes to prevent alternate access to the protest venue.
Restrictions were also imposed around Jantar Mantar and Gol Dak Khana, where prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS were in force.
Congestion spread to Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, ITO and DDU Marg. Traffic also slowed on the Delhi-Noida routes near the DND Flyway and Kalindi Kunj.
