India, July 21 -- Two alleged active members of the Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang were arrested by the Delhi Police following a brief exchange of fire in Tikri Kalan on Saturday, officials said. The accused were identified as Rohit alias Cheera (24), a resident of Narela, and Praveen alias Pinki (30), a resident of Sangam Vihar. According to the police, both were wanted in a firing case registered at Bahadurgarh City police station in Haryana's Jhajjar district, with a reward of Rs 50,000 announced on each. Police said the Special Staff of the Outer district received specific intelligence that the two gang members would arrive on PVC Road in Tikri Kalan to meet an associate while carrying illegal firearms. Acting on the information, a team led by Inspector Rohit, under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Virender Dalal, laid a trap at the spot.
When the suspects were intercepted and asked to surrender, they allegedly opened fire on the police team in an attempt to flee. The police retaliated in self-defence, resulting in a brief exchange of fire. During the encounter, two bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of constables Anuj and Harkesh, who escaped unhurt. Both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs before being overpowered. Police recovered two semi-automatic pistols, three live cartridges, four empty cartridges and a stolen motorcycle. A case has been registered at Mundka police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. Investigators also found that Rohit was a parole absconder in a 2022 case registered at Narela police station. Police said Praveen is allegedly involved in six criminal cases and Rohit in four.
