India, May 11 -- Metro travel in Delhi is set to become faster and more convenient as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has partnered with Airtel Payments Bank to launch co-branded RuPay 'On-The-Go' NCMC cards, allowing commuters to travel across metro networks, buses and other transit systems nationwide using a single card. The announcement was made at the DMRC headquarters in the presence of DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar and Airtel Payments Bank MD and CEO Anubrata Biswas along with senior officials from both organisations. The newly launched co-branded cards include Debit Cards and PPI-MTS (Prepaid Payment Instrument for Mass Transit Systems) Cards enabled with National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) technology. The initiative is aimed at supporting the Government of India's 'One Nation, One Card' vision by enabling interoperable and cashless transit payments across cities. The cards will be available at all metro stations within the next 10 days. Passengers will also be able to recharge the cards digitally through the DMRC app and Airtel app, reducing the need to stand in queues at stations. Dr. Vikas Kumar said, "DMRC has consistently focused on adopting innovative solutions to enhance passenger convenience. This exclusive partnership with Airtel Payments Bank and the introduction of co-branded NCMC cards will enable seamless and interoperable travel for our commuters, not only within the Delhi Metro network but also across multiple transit systems nationwide." Mr. Anubrata Biswas said, "Our partnership with DMRC reflects a shared vision to simplify and modernise urban mobility through secure, digital-first solutions." DMRC clarified that existing metro cards will continue to function normally. Officials said the initiative marks a major step towards integrating digital payments with everyday public transport, making commuting smoother and more connected for passengers across India.
