New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- The Delhi government has ordered a comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation programme for the Signature Bridge, prioritising protection of its foundations, treatment of steel corrosion, restoration of its Bridge Health Monitoring System (BHMS) and repairs to the skywalk. The move follows a detailed inspection conducted in July 2026 after the bridge was handed over to the Delhi PWD a few months ago.
The inspection examined the bridge's major structural components, including its foundations, bearings, expansion joints, steel deck, 154-metre pylon, stay cables, approach structures, skywalk ramp and glass facade. PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the government was addressing the bridge's maintenance requirements systematically. "Our priority is clear - every component of the bridge must remain safe, strong and properly maintained. We will not allow past gaps in maintenance to become future risks," he said.
The inspection found the BHMS largely non-functional, with several sensors damaged, missing or operating in passive mode. The proposed restoration will include sensors for temperature, strain, wind, displacement, acceleration, inclination, corrosion, traffic and structural forces.
