New Delhi, Oct. 12 -- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday launched the online portal for the DURGA (Driving, Upliftment and Rozgar for Women, Transgender E-Auto) Scheme, under which 1,300 pink electric autos will be allotted to women and transgender persons in the first phase to promote self-employment and financial independence.
Of the total e-autos, 1,170 have been earmarked for women and 130 for transgender persons. The allocation will be capped at 90 e-autos for women and 10 for transgender persons in each revenue district. The portal was launched at the Delhi
Secretariat.
According to the government, applications will remain open for three months after the scheme receives approval. If eligible applications in a district exceed its quota, beneficiaries will be selected through an online lottery after the application window closes.
Women applicants must be Delhi residents aged 20 to 40, hold a valid Light Motor Vehicle driving licence and a Public Service Vehicle badge, and have an annual family income of no more than Rs 5 lakh.
The scheme also prescribes a condition concerning a maximum of three living children. Transgender applicants must meet the specified age, residency and driving licence requirements.
The government is also planning dedicated e-auto stands near women's colleges to improve access to transport for students and other women commuters. Metro and Namo Bharat stations may get e-auto parking and charging facilities, while beneficiaries will receive EV purchase incentives and six months of free aggregator onboarding and subscriptions.
