India, Aug. 17 -- The Delhi government has extended the 100 per cent waiver of Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) on outstanding water bills for domestic and non-domestic consumers till March 31, 2027, giving residents and commercial establishments a final opportunity to clear old dues by paying only the principal amount. According to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), 5,27,514 consumers have already availed of the scheme, with Rs 3,261 crore in LPSC waived so far. The Board has also recovered Rs 815.84 crore in principal dues under the scheme. The waiver covers 14.09 lakh domestic and 70,312 commercial consumers across Delhi. Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the extension balances financial discipline with relief for consumers burdened by mounting surcharge liabilities. However, he stressed that "the extension till March 31, 2027, would be the final deadline, and no further extension would be granted." The DJB has instructed its field offices to publicise the settlement scheme and encourage consumers to clear pending principal dues. The scheme was launched on October 14, 2025, when around 14.6 lakh consumers had pending water bills. At the time, the DJB's total outstanding dues exceeded Rs.87,588 crore, including Rs.7,125 crore in principal and Rs.80,463 crore** as LPSC. In the domestic category alone, pending bills stood at Rs.16,126 crore, comprising Rs.5,057 crore in principal and Rs.11,069 crore in LPSC. Originally scheduled to end on March 31, 2026, the scheme was first extended to August 15, 2026, before the latest extension.
