New Delhi, Sept. 28 -- The Delhi government has announced restrictions on construction and demolition activities in the national capital as part of measures to tackle rising air pollution during the winter months.
From November 1, 2026, dust-generating demolition work and outdoor civil construction activities will be prohibited across Delhi. These restrictions will remain in force until January 31, 2027. The curbs will become stricter from December 10, when a complete ban on construction and demolition activities will come into effect. The blanket ban will continue until January 20, 2027. The government has introduced the measures ahead of the winter season, when pollution levels in Delhi typically become a major concern. The restrictions are intended to limit dust emissions from construction and demolition work and improve air quality.
The construction-related restrictions are part of a broader winter pollution action plan that also includes other measures aimed at reducing emissions and managing pollution during the winter period. The government has also indicated that construction sites will be subject to monitoring to identify violations during the restricted period. Earlier plans included the use of a dust monitoring portal and AI-enabled cameras for tracking larger construction sites.
