Kolkata, May 25 -- Calcutta University has waived the requirement of equivalence certificates for students graduating in regular mode from West Bengal state-aided universities seeking admission to courses under the university.
A notification issued by the registrar said students from state-aided universities in Bengal would no longer have to submit equivalence certificates for their degrees while applying for admission to Calcutta University. However, candidates would still require equivalence clearance if their degree does not correspond to the relevant course offered by CU.
The university has also recognised Communicative English (CEN2/ENG2), taught in vocational higher secondary courses under the West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development, as equivalent to ENGA/ENGB at the higher secondary level. Students from the vocational stream will no longer need separate equivalence certificates for admission to CU.
The notification further stated that undergraduate and postgraduate degrees under the CBCS and CCF systems from UGC-recognised private universities in Bengal and universities outside the state would be treated as equivalent to corresponding CU degrees. Candidates, however, would still have to obtain equivalence certificates before admission.
Under the Credit and Curriculum Framework in line with NEP 2020 norms, CU said equivalence for three-year undergraduate courses would require a minimum of 120 credits, while four-year courses would require 160 credits. For degrees obtained through the open and distance learning mode, the university said the territorial jurisdiction rules of the concerned institution would also be considered while determining equivalence.
