Kolkata, Nov. 1 -- CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty has dared Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to reopen the investigation into the death of Maoist leader Kishenji, while asking him to examine the CBI report on the 2007 Nandigram violence before threatening to reopen cases dating back to the Left Front regime.

Reacting to Adhikari's remarks at a 'Save Democracy' programme in Garbeta, where he threatened to reopen cases relating to alleged Left-era crimes, Chakraborty said the CBI had already investigated the Nandigram violence and submitted a report.

"Look at the CBI report on Nandigram. If you have the courage, find out how Kishenji died," Chakraborty said, alleging that the former Trinamool Congress government had never dared to reopen that case.

He also questioned Adhikari's role at the time of Kishenji's death, alleging that the BJP leader had helped the Maoist leader when he was associated with the Trinamool Congress.

Adhikari had alleged that the CPI(M) had sent armed cadres from its Garbeta party office to Nandigram to orchestrate violence and threatened to reopen cases against Left leaders, including Tapan Ghosh, Sukur Ali and Sushanta Ghosh.

Chakraborty accused Adhikari of repeatedly targeting Left leaders out of fear of the CPI(M)'s political presence. He alleged that the police were acting on the Chief Minister's instructions rather than in accordance with the law.
